Dear Friends of the Arts,
The Golden Neighbour Program at the Chemainus Theatre Festival has grown to be one of the most popular ways of supporting the theatre and impacting the community. When you donate, not only do you support the theatre, but you also share the power of live performance with someone else. The program is simple - through our community partners, your donation is turned into tickets for a group of children, a family and/or individual who would otherwise not be able to experience the magic of live theatre. The exchange is electric, enduring and real.
Every year, the Chemainus Theatre Festival receives hundreds of requests for tickets from those who cannot afford them. For example, last year, in partnership with the Parental Advisory Committee, the Golden Neighbour Program subsidized over 180 students from the Chemainus Elementary School to join in the magic of live theatre at our winter Kidzplay show. For over half of the students, it was the first trip to any live performance in a theatre. Like all of the feedback from this program, from both young and old - the response was overwhelming.
Many others, including literacy groups, the United Way, Boys and Girls clubs and other non-profit societies, benefit from your support. Since the inception of the Golden Neighbour Program hundreds of individuals and families have enjoyed the Chemainus Theatre Festival experience. Here's what some of the participants have had to say...
"We would like to thank you for providing our Learner Event with 12 tickets from the Golden Neighbour Program. Thanks to this charitable program, we were able to offer 21 literacy students an experience of live theatre that they might not otherwise ever have."
Jacqueline Webster, Vancouver Island University
"We would like to sincerely thank you for the tickets to The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, this summer the kids really enjoyed the show. There were many smiles this summer because of you! Your support and contribution has made a difference in the lives of
vulnerable children in our community."
Britta Peterson, Cowichan Family Life Association
Please be as generous as you can. A tax receipt will be issued for any amount that you are able to contribute. Through your generosity, lives are enriched, energized and invigorated. This is what live theatre is all about.
